Beauty Tip: Homemade Sugar Scrub

Hey It Gals!

I’m back with a beauty tip that you all are able to benefit from by adding to your skincare (face and body) routine. I’m talking about SUGAR SCRUBS. You may wonder just how useful sugar could be for external uses and anything beyond sweetening your morning coffee or made at home desserts. Well I’m here to sprinkle some knowledge about just how beneficial sugar combined with other properties can be, what ingredients are best to use in combination with the sugar to target certain skin concerns and how to create your own homemade version.

General Benefits/Uses:

The sole use of sugar scrubs are to exfoliate the skin, leaving it to feel as smooth as a baby’s bum, help retain moisture and rid the sin of dryness and flakes. Sugar scrubs are also great for facial cleansing purposes and to our advantage won’t clog the pores while doing so. If one has acne prone skin a sugar scrub is not out of the picture for you. It will just be important to monitor the amount of oils used within the scrub. A sugar scrub’s general benefits according to www.BeautiSecrets.com include:

- “These scrubs are user-friendly for all skin types because they leave no side effects in their wake”.
-“They work wonders in preventing skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis because they hydrate the skin so effectively”.
-“These scrubs are a great way to fight cellulite in the body”.
-“They act as all-body polishing agents, leaving in its wake clean and smooth skin. This is because they are packed with the goodness of alpha hydroxy which is essential for a glowing skin”.

· "sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the “glue” that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin".

-“Repeated use of sugar scrubs will help one to have healthier, glowing, and uniformly textured and colored skin”.
-“They can be used as a soothing agent after a rough shave”.
-“They act as a preventive measure against tanning”.
-“Everyday use will also help to formulate a protective layer for the skin and prevent areas like the knees, elbow, etc. from becoming dark”.
-“Sugar scrubs can also help in the healing of blemishes”.
-“These scrubs can be used on the lips as well, and work wonders for the lips because they help in preventing chapped lips and skin. They also help to soften callused and rough skin, leaving it smooth and fragrant”.

There are many ingredients and options you have when it comes to purchasing or making your own homemade sugar scrub. As mentioned by www.food.ndtv.com, here’s five ingredients that are used to target certain skin types or concerns to best fit your needs.

1. Sensitive Skin -use brown sugar in place of cane sugar or white sugar.

*it’s less abrasive on the skin, and like any sugar used, removes dead skin (exfoliates).

*the salt will leave skin with glowy look while exfoliating the skin which will also result in a brighter, glowy hydrated finish.

3. Pre-mature Aging/Aging Sking/ Cellulite (Preventative & Reactive)- use any ground coffee of choice and (add vanilla to counteract the coffee smell).

*the antioxidants found in the coffee helps prevent premature aging skin and can help minimize cellulite because of its ability to promote cell turnover resulting in newer, tighter and younger skin layers.

4. Oily Skin- use brewed green tea in combination with sugar and (your choice of green tea bags or loose green tea)

*it unclogs pores and promotes a fresh finish for the skin in contrast to an oily, shiny finish. If using green tea it also has the same properties as sugar which will help exfoliate and rid the skin of dead layers.

Now I'm going to be making a simple at home sugar scrub using:

-Brown sugar (1/2 cup)

-Olive Oil or Almond Oil (sweetened) (1/2 cup)

-Vitamin E liquid gel capsules cut open (1 teaspoon)

-Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon) or essential oil of choice

-Raw honey (1 teaspoon)

With the help from BeautiSecrets.

Step 1: mix oil of choice, vanilla extract, raw honey and Vitamin E into a bowl.

Step 2: next add brown sugar into mixture and stir.

Step 3: Store in jar of choice and decorate (optional), but I love crafting and personalizing.

Then enjoy!
