3 Summer Shows to Watch

Hey It Gals! I'm back to share three binge worthy television shows (which happen to be some of my favorites) watched this summer. I, and probably many others, love to discover new series to obsess over and end up following for seasons to come. I personally always find myself becoming connected to the characters and the story lines of the different shows I've watched. It's just satisfying to know I have a show or series that needs watching by me :) Silly? I know right, but I know I'm not the only one. I also don't consider myself to have a specific genre of shows that I only stick to and that's it. I'm open to all genres. I just overall value a quality show with a captivating story line or message and great actors. So, in no particular order let's get into it.

LOVE IS: A new original series produced by the award-winning screenwriters and television producers Mara Brock Akil, the creator of Girlfriends, The Game, Being Mary Jane and Salim Akil. A dynamic couple duo. The show airs on Oprah's network OWN on Tuesday's at 10:00 p.m. LoveIs is set in the late 90's ('97 in specific, the best year!) of L.A. and is about the love story between two young black people, Nuri and Yasir, chasing their dreams and following their hearts. What makes this love story stand apart from others is that it is the personification of the married writers and producers, The Akils, love story. How cool is that? This is a show that is displaying all the layers of love and not just any love, but black love. It's raw, relatable and real. (Disclaimer: the below trailer may make the show seem a bit dramatic, but it is really entertaining and refreshing. There is no other show like it on T.V. right now).

CLAWS: On its second season and growing popularity this series is full of twists and turns featuring many memorable faces like: Niecy Nash, Judy Reyes, Karrueche Tran, Harold Perrineau and more. With its talented cast CLAWS has brought life and thrill back to our television screens. Set in Manatee County, Central Florida, five women of various backgrounds are all connected by a nail salon as manicurists, but these are no ordinary nail technicians. In CLAWS we follow the lives of Desna, the boss and owner of Nail Artisan, who cares for her autistic brother and is caught up in illegal activities with a crime boss known as Uncle Daddy. If that statement alone doesn't intrigue you in the slightest then I'm not sure what will. You also meet Jenn, a now sober and recovering alcoholic, Polly, a well-mannered ex-convict, Quiet Ann, a mysterious but loyal asset, and Virginia, a young easily distracted prostitute turned nail technician. All I can say is that the entertainment never ends with this show, and you'll find yourself captivated by the bond each of these individuals have for one another on and off camera.

RIVERDALE: The award winning drama series, which is based on the original Archie Comics comic books, Riverdale is the visual representation of those drama mystery novels our inner 13 year old selves have a guilty pleasure for. It encompasses love stories, murder investigations, the battle between the north side of a community and its south side, corrupt business owners and politicians and a little bit of pure crazy. The series is set in a small town of Riverdale where students Archie, Betty, Jugghead, Veronica, Cheryl, Kevin and Josie maneuver their way through high school and all its challenges all while the murder of their fellow classmate is under investigation. In this small town incidents like this aren't left up to the professionals, instead these students, who demand justice and truth, set out to resolve the mystery on their own.

Happy watching!
