Meet "It" Gal, Tayler

Tayler, an Orlando, Florida native, is a college graduate from Florida A&M University and all around creative with a passion for expressing that creativity through make up artistry. But it doesn't end there. Tayler creatively directs and conducts her own personal photo shoots and beauty campaigns to showcase her raw talent, via her Instagram, and stand out among others. You can also find her at NYX Professional working as a beauty advisor or in the comfort of her own creative space as a freelance make up artist. But again, her talents don't end there. In addition to the effort she dedicates toward her passion, she also spends time as a coach to a local high school junior varsity team and even works at a local elementary school assisting teachers in their classrooms with small group and daily activities.

1. What do you think it means to be an It Gal?

To me being an It Gal is exuding confidence in everything she does. Being an individual and letting her style and self be reflected in her work. An It Gal doesn't allow society tell her how she should be living her life, but instead creating her own lane and staying true to it. She's one who's carefree, head strong, and ambitious. She's true to herself in any situation and very nonconforming. An It Gal knows the thin line between knowing she's the sh*t; she's inspiring to her audience and self motivating.

2. When and how did you discover your passion for make up artistry?

I have always been into makeup since I was in middle school, but of course living in a black home my mom was kind of "ehh" about it if you will. So being the "I'm going to do what I want to do anyhow" type of girl any teen was, I would sneak and wear it. I didn't really start taking it more serious though until my senior year in high school and going into college. It's an art form to me and it gave me another expressive outlet to be myself.

3. Describe yourself in three words.

eccentric, compassionate, dedicated

4. We see that you've done work for Vogue and Miami Swim Week, tells us about these amazing opportunities. Is this the direction you aim to take your skills?

Wow! Yes these opportunities were truly God sent. I reached out to the coordinators myself for Miami Swim Week and they truly thought my work was amazing enough to be used. So that was pretty exciting because I just did that on a whim. It was such an amazing experience and from that experience is how I got an extended opportunity to be featured in Vogue! I learned so much about myself during that time as well as ways to improve my artistry through the pros! It allowed me the chance to see if fashion shows are the area I want to delve into as far as my makeup goes. I really enjoyed that time, however, I don't think I would want my artistry to go into the direction of fashion shows. It's an environment I don't really see myself in. I prefer working with everyday women and kind of being able to do my own thing. I'm not huge on uniformity because I like my signature skills to shine and fashion shows don't give me the opportunity to do such things.

5. If you could tell your younger self anything  that you know now what would it be?

shoot, I need to be telling myself this now lol. Girl, FORGET WHAT ANYBODY HAS TO SAY GO AFTER YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. Life is tough yes, but losing your happiness is not worth it. If your heart desires it, then do it. Don't worry about failing anyone outside of yourself because the support will come. It sucks that people may not see your vision, but trust when it starts coming into fruition you'll feel amazing and then your loved ones will come around. Nobody is going to see your vision unless you do. Stay true to yourself and never let anybody hinder your success. Don't put things off, go for it now!

6. When it comes to your make up looks where do you draw most of your inspiration?

I loveeeeeee a natural looking clean face. I draw a lot of my inspiration from celebrity artists (@kingmalimagic, @namvo, @kilprity just to name a few) and models who do photo shoots with a lot of glow and dewiness to the skin. I love concepts that aren't too bold in the complexion part of makeup, but I do enjoy playing around in color (now that I'm kind of good at it). I also draw inspiration from myself and how I'm feeling. I like playing with different looks and focusing on one skill until I perfect it. For example, now I am focusing on my faux freckles because I got good at them and cut creases. So I just play until I find something I like and BAM we have a look.

7. Where do you see yourself and your brand in 5 years?

In 5 years hmmm, I definitely don't want to be in Orlando in 5 years, NOPE, but I also see myself being more known in the industry than I am now. I definitely want to have my brand catered to little girls because I love uplifting and mentoring them. So my business will definitely be flourishing by then and I hope to have more people on board with it too. As far as my artistry goes I would definitely like to have a celebrity client by then, because I know my makeup is only improving, and collaborating with a large makeup brand (preferably one that is black owned).

8. Tell us three things fun facts we don't know about you?

I've broken my arm twice in the same spot.

I'm very impulsive. All of my tattoos and piercings were spontaneous.

I tend to make up my own slang and abbreviate almost all of my words.

9. Any upcoming projects or opportunities we should be on the lookout for coming from Tayler?

Yessss for sure. I don't want to disclose yet, but new things are definitely coming.

10. Any message you want to leave for the It Gals out there?

Stay true to yourself. As cliche as it is, people will fall in love with YOU and who you are.

Okay, fire ball round.
