Galentine's Day💗?

A day to celebrate the wonderful lady friends in your life and shower them with love and gratitude, Galentine's Day! The holiday was coined by Leslie Knope a character from the hit TV series Parks and Recreation. It's to be celebrated the day before Valentine's Day February 13th. In the midst of me thinking how cute and fun it would be to celebrate a holiday just for ladies and their counterparts, I searched Instagram under #GalentinesDay. As I scrolled thru I noticed how women of color have not yet been introduced to such an awesome concept. This gave me even more fuel to present the idea to you my It Gals, especially since I was initially introduced to the idea simply because the word Galentine had "GAL" in it! I'm going to share with you some ideas on how you could spend your Galentine's Day with the gal friends in your life. Whether you're single, taken or "it's complicated". As individuals we hold a variety of relationships with people whether they're platonic or romantic. Regardless of their status all relationships have to be maintained in order to continue to flourish and have any benefit to you and the person involved. Galentine's Day is an opportunity to do so, for friendships, in the name of love as Valentine's Day has, for significant others, in the name of love. Below are some ideas on how to spend this year's Galentine's Day!

Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation

1. Have a Galentine's Day Party

This can come in the form of a dinner party, slumber party or any other kind of party. As adults seeing your friends can become just as hard as getting to the gym lol. Use this holiday as an excuse to gather your girls and get together for some set out time to spend with one another. Order food, have some wine, catch up with one another, watch a movie, play card games, listen to music all in the comfort of one or the other's home and celebrate each another. Make it even more interesting by issuing a dress code and setting up a photo op area for cute pictures and memories.

2. Spa Dates

You and your bestie can meet up for well deserved pampering together. I'd say take it up a notch this time too. Try a new location with a more luxurious vibe, where Champagne may be served, as you enjoy therapeutic girl talk and foot rubs. Also, let's admit it, going to the nail salon can be a bit lonely especially during manicures when you only have your technician to chat with or you're mindlessly watching whatever channel the shop's television is stuck on.

3. Meet up and Have Brunch

Get dressed up, glam'd up and head to a nicely located brunch spot with your ladies. Mimosas? A reason to be cute? Food? Music? Need I say more...

4. Alternative, Meet up and Have Dinner

Go somewhere you and your gals have never been and treat yourselves. Benihana's, P.F. Chang's, Ruth Chris etc. Order the steak, get the lobster and have that Sangria! Okay, maybe not all those at once, but again look nice and visit your city's best locations for fine dining.

5. Wine Tasting/Wine Social

This is a cool and different experience. This is an idea that could take place at home where all friends bring a bottle for the gang to try or visit a winery to do the same.

6. Karaoke/Game Night

Host a fun filled game night or have everyone live out their inner Hip Hop, R&B or Pop Star! Make sure there's snacks, treats, goodies and a fire playlist.

7. Painting with a Twist

This is already a popular activity for friends to do. Schedule your gals for this Wednesday at your local Painting with a Twist and get creative. You could even host your own!

8. Full on Movie Marathon Night

Have a cozy night in with your girls and watch some of the most classic films like Mean Girls, Devil Wears Prada, Cheetah Girls etc. Have the popcorn ready and the pillows fluffed.

9. FaceTime Dates

If your gals are in different places than you, set up a FaceTime video call to catch up, talk about you week, share the tings you miss about one another or even plan your next physical encounter.

Hope my It Gals and all your lady friends take advantage of this holiday and make it a thing for the years to come. I know I plan to. In the future I hope to have an It Gal event in celebration for the holiday for all my It Gals to come together in a social setting with activities, photo ops, dress codes the whole works! Fingers crossed. If you do celebrate this February 13th tag the @theitgalofficial instagram, we’d love to see💗

XOXO,

Just, Jaiya
